Center Update Nears Completion

In honor of its 15th anniversary, a fundraising appeal has helped upgrade the facility to protect it as a comforting, peaceful place for patients and families. The last phase of the upgrade is a new HVAC system, which will cost about $78,000 and is urgently needed.

maintain it as a comforting, peaceful place for patients and families.

Thanks to an anonymous donor who gave an unrestricted gift of $10,000, we were able to launch an update plan and invite other donors and foundations to help. As a result, the updates began early in 2023 and continue into 2024.

Nearly all phases of the update are complete, except for the costliest item: a new HVAC system that is estimated to cost the organization approximately $78,000.

The existing HVAC unit is original to the facility. We kept it in working condition for 15 years, but it is now time to replace it with a more energy-efficient model. Our hope is to install the new system in late spring.

As we continue to raise funds for the HVAC replacement system, we want to thank those donors and foundations who helped us complete previous phases of the updates with gifts totaling $42,000. Our thanks to each of these supporters for helping make sure we can provide peace and comfort for another 15 years.

To help support the final phase of the update, visit our secure online donation site and make a gift today.

“It feels like a brand-new Center, and it makes me feel proud to welcome patients and families to a facility I know is comfortable.” – Rhoda Bryant, RN, Compassionate Care Center Director

Berea College Appalachian Fund (BCAF)

A grant from BCAF allowed us to replace carpeted flooring with more durable, vinyl flooring. The new flooring is safer, easier to clean, and supports noise reduction.

Anonymous Donor

Thanks to this gift, we replaced the worn couches at the Compassionate Care Center with new, more comfortable couches.

Kentucky Social Welfare Network (KSWN)

KSWN’s grant award helped fund the purchase of new reclining chairs for patient rooms.

Good Samaritan Ministries (GSM)

Thanks to GSM, we were able to purchase new beds for our patient rooms.

The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels

With these funds, we installed six electronic medical record workstations in patient rooms. The workstations help our care teams document their care while still visiting with the patient.

The Jackson County Off-Roaders Association (JCORA)

Leaders and members of JCORA held a benefit ride for Hospice Care Plus. A portion of the proceeds was used to install a new ice machine at the facility.

Jackson County Wagon and Saddle Club

Leaders and members of the club hosted a benefit horse show for Hospice Care Plus, and proceeds were used, in part, to replace the blanket warmer at the Center.

“We never ceased to be surprised by the way our supporters pull together for our care programs. We thank each of them for helping us update the Center.” – Stefanie Manes, Development Coordinator
