The Compassionate Care Center

Hospice care is designed to care for patients at home, where you feel most comfortable. For those instances when a symptom cannot be managed effectively at home, or when a family emergency or crisis necessitates inpatient respite care, we are proud to offer our free-standing, hospice inpatient facility, the Compassionate Care Center.

Our Compassionate Care Center offers short-term care focused on symptom management and respite care. It is designed to feel as much like home as possible and supports both patient and family, just like Home Hospice Care does.

The Compassionate Care Center is available to:

  • Our Home Hospice Care patients and families who need a brief inpatient stay to manage a symptom or to receive respite care.
  • Patients who qualify for hospice care but are not currently in our Home Hospice Care Program. This includes patients transferring to the Compassionate Care Center from another hospital or facility.
  • Anyone who medically qualifies for hospice inpatient or respite care. Although our Home Hospice Care Program only provides care in six counties, our Compassionate Care Center is available to residents of any county.

What is Respite Care?

  • Respite care is covered by the Medicare Hospice Benefit and other insurance providers.  When a crisis situation or emergency requires that the patient receive care somewhere other than the home for a brief period of time, we can offer that care at our Compassionate Care Center. A respite stay can last up to five days.

Special Features

  • Our patient rooms are spacious, designed to accommodate family and friends.
  • Each private room features French doors with access to fresh air and garden areas on private patios.
  • All patients at the Compassionate Care Center have 24/7 access to nursing, nursing assistant, and medical care. Social workers and chaplains also provide care at the Center.
  • The Compassionate Care Center is very easy to access for family and visitors, with ample parking and short walks to the entrance.
  • We offer individualized meal choices and open visitation, including beloved pets.
  • A pet therapy program includes occasional visits from certified therapy pets and handlers.

Many patients return home after their stay at the Center to continue with Home Hospice Care.

How We Help

Whether you are navigating a serious illness or caring for someone who is, you have a lot on your mind. We’re happy to answer any question you have, at any time. You don’t have to sign up for anything to start a conversation.

When is it time?
If you believe a loved one may benefit from hospice or palliative care, call as soon as possible. The earlier we are involved in care, the better the quality of life and care for both patient and family. Hospice and palliative care programs both provide an extra layer of support as you navigate a serious illness.

What program is right for me?
Whether hospice or palliative care is a better fit depends on many factors, including what your most pressing needs are, details regarding medical eligibility, and your family’s comfort level. Our job is to make that process as easy for you as possible by working with you, your loved one, and your healthcare providers to make the right choice.

Does it cost anything?
The cost of hospice care is covered by the Hospice Medicare Benefit, Medicaid, private insurance, and donations to our non-profit organization. Our palliative care program is fully donor supported. We provide care for all, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

What are my next steps?
We recommend contacting us to learn more about programs and options. You can do that here, by calling us at 859-986-1500, or via email to hospice@hospicecp.org. Once you’re ready, we can work with your loved one’s providers to review medical records and arrange for a home or facility visit from one of our nurses. The nurse will assess your loved one and answer your questions.
