What is the “Plus” in Hospice Care Plus?

We offer more than just hospice care. We have provided a Home Palliative Program for more than 20 years for those who are not yet medically appropriate for hospice care but need help with resources, care coordination, benefits, and pain and symptom management consults.

We go above and beyond the basics of hospice care.

Our Grief & Loss Support program is for everyone, not just the families of our patients.

We provide care for all, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

We offer free resources and education for the community.

Through our speakers bureau, we offer free education to your civic group, church, business, or other organization. Our expert staff can present on advance care planning, grief and loss, hospice care, palliative care, and caregiver issues. Contact us to request a speaker. We also provide free advance care planning documents, like the Five Wishes booklet, to residents in our service area.

How Support Works:

Who qualifies for hospice care?

Any person living with an advanced serious illness, such as cancer, heart disease, lung disease, Alzheimer's, or dementia, may be eligible to receive hospice care and services.

How does hospice serve patients and families?

Hospice care is a family-centered approach. Your hospice team works collaboratively, focusing on the patient's and family's needs, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual.

Especially at first, many families find the most reassuring services to be the nurse's visit, 24/7 access to nursing care, and the visits by nursing assistants.

However, a social worker, chaplain, and trained volunteers are also available to assist with benefits, emotional and spiritual support, companionship, and caregiver support.

Palliative Care:

What is the difference between palliative and hospice care?

Palliative care is for those who may still be undergoing curative treatments and want help focusing on quality of life and symptom management. Hospice care is for those not currently receiving curative treatments but who want to have specialized symptom management and increased quality of life.

Can I receive Palliative Care even if I’m still pursuing aggressive treatments, such as chemotherapy?

If I’m a home health patient or a nursing home patient, do I qualify for Palliative Care?

How do I request Palliative Care services?

Isn’t it expensive?

NO. The cost of care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Our palliative and grief care programs are donor supported and you are not invoiced for care.

Where is Hospice Care Plus Located?

Wherever you call home, we come to you.

Hospice Care Plus & Compassionate Care Center is located in Richmond, but our Home Hospice and Palliative Care programs are dedicated to allowing our patients to be where they want to be, with the people they care about most.

For most, that means staying home. Wherever you call home - an assisted living community, nursing home, subdivision, or family farm - we come to you.
